Federal Euthanasia Bill in the Senate - call to action to all Australians: say NO to euthanasia
6th December 2015 (updated 2nd March 2016)
Either bill, if successful, would allow the two Australian Territories with limited self-government ther ability to legislate for euthanasia and/or assisted suicide. That 'right' was removed in 1997 by the passage of The Euthanasia Laws Act. This bill seeks to overturn that law.
In 1995, the Northern Territory was the first legislature in the world to make killing patients or supporting their suicides legal. The effect was to enable any Australian who could travel to avail themselves of this law. In Australian terms, the Northern Territory was set to become the 'Switzerland of the South.'
Those who support euthanasia legislation believe that lightning can strike twice in the same place. They are not concerned about the supposed removal of a 'right' from territorians. They simply want to get a euthanasia law passed and they consider that the single chamber parliaments of the NT and ACT might be the easiest of all places to make this happen.
We must ACT NOW!
