International Chair - Euthanasia Prevention Coalition The Netherlands government has decided to extend euthanasia to people with dementia who are incompetent to request death by lethal injection, if the person requested euthanasia while still competent.The 2014 Netherlands euthanasia statistics state that out of 5306 euthanasia deaths; 81 people were lethally injected for dementia and 41 people died by euthanasia for psychiatric reasons. Don't tell me that euthanasia doesn't lead off a vertical moral cliff: A recent survey of Netherlander MD general practitioners found that very high percentages would kill cancer patients, and 1/3 would be willing to euthanize the mentally ill. From the PsychCentral story:For mental illness, only 34 percent would consider helping the patient die, and 40 percent would help someone with early-stage dementia to die. Newspapers across the globe are reporting that this week the Belgian Parliament will debate extending the Belgian euthanasia laws to include children and those suffering from dementia or other "diseases of the brain". We have already seen in recent weeks that the Euthanasia definition on the grounds of "unbearable psychological or physical suffering" is being tested through a number of media-reported cases.
