WA’s Premier makes early decision to support assisted suicide legislation
Jan 17, 2018
WA Premier Mark McGowan has already publicly declared his support for legalised killing in advance of hearing the results of a parliamentary inquiry into end of life choices, and without seeing any draft legislation anticipated to be introduced to Western Australia’s Parliament this year. Mr McGowan has made his decision, despite the parliamentary committee only being a third of the way through its task, with no legislation before parliament under consideration, and in disregard of the Australian Medical Association’s opposition to euthanasia and assisted suicide. The West Australian reports:

After acknowledging during the recent Western Australian election campaign that he supported euthanasia, now WA Premier Mark McGowan, as he did before the previous election in 2013, said recently that any such bill would be a private member's bill and not a government bill.
In March, 'Health Minister Roger Cook said he supported voluntary euthanasia. He indicated the Government would not introduce legislation but would support individual MPs' bids to introduce a private member's Bill' says the West Australian. Cook confirmed this position more recently also.

Don't make heroes out of doctors who kill
Aug 30, 2016
by Paul Russell: I have written a number of times now about the situations where doctors 'go public' claiming to have flaunted the law by killing a person in an act of euthanasia and almost (and sometimes, actually) daring the Police to act against them.Such doctors seem always to be 'going public' in an effort to create or support momentum towards changing the law on euthanasia and assisted suicide. The stories usually include some rhetoric that would have us believe that theirs is a brave act, bordering on heroic; a sacrifice for the sake of others.

Aug 28, 2016
by Paul Russell: Western Australia is a long ways away from the rest of the nation. I'm told that West Australians like it that way. Perhaps that might explain why they seem to do their 'politics' a little differently:A West Australian doctor, Alida Lancee, recently admitted to providing a 'lethal injection' to a woman in her 80s who had 'severe emphysema'. Some of the details of this story were recently released in a book that amounts to a collection of stories about difficult deaths.
